Yeah, I’m not cool. I didn’t even make it to twenty posts on WordPress before I realised it’s not for me. Love the fonts, love the layout, but I just want to fiddle with stuff a little bit more. So, like a salmon with a broken satnav, I’m going against the stream and migrating to Blogger.

If you were enjoying my unconnected ramblings (hello? Dad? Is that you?) you can now find me here, where I’ll be posting the same peculiar mix of photography, design, craft and obscure bits and bobs that “everyone” came to know and love.

A fantastic CC licensed poster/image/potential tshirt. Love this, especially the lime green colour – it’s already printed out for my desk space… and now it’s my new iPhone wallpaper too!

Now to actually make things. I’m fine on the excitement front…

Eek indeed! It’s quite weird seeing something that you found on the front page of Gizmodo. I read that site every day for work, and spotting my story left me going “whaaa?”.

Gizmodo haven’t linked back to me, which is fair enough I spose *shrugs and pouts a bit* – not sure how my bloglet would cope with the fame. But I do feel good that I found something of interest. Let’s see how this pans out…

There I was, just happily googling the Nikon F mount for a story to celebrate the lens mount’s 50th anniversary, and I stumbled on this:

Glico Nikon F Miniature and MACRO Nikkor 35mm F4.5

Unbelievably cute! From what I can make out, these are tiny gifts given away with certain Japanese sweets called Glico. These are from 2002, so unfortunately I don’t think they’re still available. Rubbish.

But the best bit about this whole website has to be the broken English in which it’s written. It’s like poetry:

from the article on the small Nikon F pictured above:

“However, there is only one weak point in it.
It is a camera which cannot be actually taken picture.
Because, the minimum size film which can be loaded into this Glico Nikon F camera is not sold.”

and another beauty, from the World Minimum Nikon White Filter page:

I recommend this small filter to the all digital poet and an astroboy.

This is actually the first thing that I’ve discovered for myself on the Internet (y’know, without having SwissMiss or Neatorama help me out) and I’m very proud of myself.

Things for Sale that I will mail you

It’s a site listing what David will do for money. (No, not like that.) For $3 he’ll mail you an empty envelope. For $10 he’ll take a photo of the sky and post it to you. If you send him a random amount of cash, he’ll try to take a trip as far as he can, photograph himself there and keep enough money to get back. There are also lots of more expensive adventures that he’s willing to go on.

He seems to be doing pretty well in his quest – what a lovely way to earn money.

I spend a lot of my day negotiating/talking (same thing, surely?) with our crack team of designers – love them to pieces but they ain’t half picky! This website made me splurt tea all over my Mac.

Design Police features a bunch of handy, downloadable stickers/signs perfect for peppering over a document that just doesn’t cut the mustard. The design boys love them. I’m going to make them mandatory in press week.

Mango Falls - a collection of slides and images from undeveloped camera films found inside cameras in flea markets/thrift stores/charity shops. I love these photographic quests and projects – if I had more spare time, I’d love to start something similar myself.

Other projects I thought about starting but never actually got round to:

photographing and writing out the contents of discarded shopping lists (it seems loads of people already had this idea!)

shooting more film pictures (hmm – I can hear a Diana calling me)

starting my own blog

From the people trying to fix my memory card:

“Unfortunately, although we have tried everything we know there is just no way of accessing any data on your CF card. Physical damage can cause these devices to act strangely and the infuriating thing is we can mount the device at 977mb but the communication isn’t working. We have exhausted all options available to us so unfortunately we will have to give up and return the device to you, if you require. Alternatively we can destroy it for you.

Sorry we have been unable to recover your data.”

So, what have we learned? Do not run over your memory cards. You’d think they’d write that on the box…

It’s not like I ever have SD cards going spare (damn tiny, easily lose-able media!) but if I did, I’d definitely be giving this a go.

This beautiful little book is made from an old SD card and contains some of the photos that the creator had taken on the card. What a gorgeous idea – I salute the fiddliness of this project!

Oh, and still no news on my own, tragically malformed memory card. SanDisk said they needed “more time” *gulp*…
